How Munting Tinig Began: A Legacy of Music and Heritage

Munting Tinig, as we know it today, has a rich history that spans many years. The group was founded by the late Virginia Baccay, a beloved teacher, musician, and community leader. Driven by her passion for both music and culture, she sought to create a space where children could come together to celebrate their Filipino heritage. She knew that music was a powerful tool to connect the younger generation with their roots, and Munting Tinig was born out of that vision.

Though Virgina is no longer with us, her spirit and dedication live on in the group. Today, we are thrilled to be under the direction of the renowned Marites Pellicer, a respected figure in the Filipino-American community, whose talents and passion continue to inspire. Together, we carry forward her dream of nurturing young minds through the arts while keeping our Filipino heritage alive for the next generation.

The Purpose of Munting Tinig: Building Community Through Song and Dance

Munting Tinig’s mission is simple yet powerful: to teach children about their Filipino heritage, celebrate Filipino and American folk songs, and foster a sense of community and appreciation for each other. Through this group, kids get to experience the joy of learning and performing traditional songs and dances from both Filipino and American cultures.

By bringing children together through music, Munting Tinig helps build lasting connections, instills cultural pride, and creates a fun and supportive environment for kids to thrive in. It's a place where your child can express themselves, develop teamwork skills, and make new friends—all while learning something meaningful.
